So you’ve made your first video, it’s probably the greatest video that has ever been made to be fair, Tarantino would be proud of it.

So you’ve gone through the motions, you’ve uploaded it to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter you’ve even sent out an email campaign.

It could potentially be the next big thing, you don’t want to jinx it but it could be the next Gangam Style.

All you need to do now is sit back, put your feet up and wait for the views to roll in.

So you wait.

And you wait.

And you keep on waiting.

And nothing happens.

You start to question yourself, your beliefs.

Is this not my calling?

Do i not belong here?

Have I got this all wrong?

All is not lost. You are brilliant, you can be the next Spielberg, you just need to do a couple of thing in relation to optimising your video.

The first thing you need to do is generate a top quality thumbnail.

People often say don’t judge a book by it’s cover, but that’s exactly what we all do, even though we don’t want to admit it. This is your first calling card to the online community, so it really has to be striking and stand out.

Here are a couple of thumbnail examples. They are actually from the same film. But they send out completely different signals.

One of these is a generated thumbnail done on a kind of automated basis through Vimeo or YouTube or something like that the other one has been crafted by myself.

Now this was done through a piece of software called Canva, which allows you to create templates, and really kind of get everything to fit in frame and really deliver your key message.

In order to make this thumbnail look beautiful you don’t have to be a graphic designer. Unique templates that software like Canva make it incredibly easy to really get your point across.

The second thing we can do is use a piece of software brought to you by CoSchedule and this is called “Headline Analyzer”.

What this allows you to do is spit ball the ideas round the office, come up with some really inspiring messages things to call your video, to headline in it. You don’t just want “explainer video”, “company video” you want something striking.

If you think of movies like “Braveheart” they would be a lot less effective it was called “The Scottish Hero”.

You really need to get the message our there. So what this piece of software does is, it allows you to put in your statements and then it has all kind of fancy wizardry that is able to rate it out of a 100.

If you’re hitting 70 or above then you’ve really got a striking message. One that will really grab and entice your viewers.

So there it is, a couple of easy tips, to get you on your way with optimising your videos and you never know you could be the next big thing.
